Organic matter , organic material , or natural organic matter refers to the large source of carbon-based compounds found within natural and engineered, terrestrial and aquatic environments. It is matter composed of organic compounds that have come from the remains of organisms such as plants and animals and their waste products in the environment. Organic matter is very important in the movement of nutrients in the environment and plays a role in water retention on the surface of the planet. Living organisms are composed of organic compounds.

Beleze and Aldo J. In this paper we report the synthesis and characterization of novel organic-inorganic hybrid materials between the crystalline antimonic acid CAA and two conductive polymers: polypyrrole and polyaniline. The hybrids were obtained by in situ oxidative polymerization of monomers by the Sb V present in the pyrochlore-like CAA structure. The materials were characterized by infrared and Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, cyclic voltammetry, CHN elemental analysis and electronic paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The results showed that both polymers were formed in their oxidized form, with the CAA structure acting as a counter anion.

Organic-inorganic hybrids appear as a creative alternative for obtaining new materials with unusual features. This is related to their diphasic structures, leading to multifunctional materials. The low-temperature processes which are used to synthesize such structures provide a wide versatility in the design of the compounds. The potentiality of the chemistry is to play on the structure of these mixtures and dissociate the various contributions in tailoring both phases and controlling the interfaces. In this paper, a review of some chemistry pathways to hybrid materials is presented. The nature of the bonds between organic and inorganic phases is used to divide them in two major families: class I corresponds to materials with weak interphase bonding, while class II corresponds to materials where both phases are chemically grafted. Applications of these materials in the fields of optics, iono-electronics, mechanics, biology and others are expected.

Organic and inorganic chemicals can become pollutants when they are washed into rivers, lakes or the sea. Some of the chemicals are toxic, depending on their concentrations.

Solid state chemistry is concerned with the synthesis, structure, properties and application of solids including inorganic and organic materials and their composites.

New Inorganic Materials

The thermal properties of nanocrystal arrays and large unit cell molecular crystals are studied using experimental and computational techniques. The major objective is to understand the mechanisms of thermal transport through three-dimensional organic-inorganic superstructured materials that are built from superatoms. The frequency domain thermoreflectance technique is applied to measure thermal conductivity in thin films and nanoliter sized single crystals. Molecular dynamics simulations, lattice dynamics calculations, and density functional theory calculations are employed to interpret the measurements and to explore experimentally-inaccessible nanoscale phenomena. A superatom is a cluster of atoms that behaves as a stable or metastable unit with emergent properties distinct from its elemental atoms.

Organic matter

Organic and inorganic compounds deal with the structure, properties, and reactions of compounds. Chemists in general and organic chemists in particular can create new molecules never before proposed which, if carefully designed, may have important properties for the betterment of the human experience. Organic and inorganic compounds play important role in industries such as the rubber, plastics, fuel, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, detergent, coatings, dyestuffs, and agrichemicals industries. The foundations of biochemistry, biotechnology, and medicine are built on organic compounds and their role in life processes.

Inorganic compound , any substance in which two or more chemical elements usually other than carbon are combined, nearly always in definite proportions. Compounds of carbon are classified as organic when carbon is bound to hydrogen. Carbon compounds such as carbides e. See chemical compound: Inorganic compounds. Inorganic compound Article Media Additional Info.

The word "organic" means something very different in chemistry than it does when you're talking about produce and food. The primary difference between organic vs. Also, nearly all organic compounds contain carbon-hydrogen or C-H bonds. Note that containing carbon is not sufficient for a compound to be considered organic. Look for both carbon and hydrogen. Organic and inorganic chemistry are two of the main disciplines of chemistry.
